late 1940s I got hard whacked by my scoolteacher and went home to my Mam crying.....She whacked me more and took me to the school to apologise for whatever it was I had done.Must have been the same school of hard knocks parenting! Non of this modern Gina ford rubbish!!

That's neat! I'd buy one of those.
When I met the woman who is now my wife (~1995) I had a dial phone. Her first hubby was a telephone technician and so had always had the most modern phones. Her twelve-year-old son went to use my phone one day, but had to come and ask how to work it. He'd probably never seen a dial phone.
