Laminating a Table Top - Advice Please

I've been toying with the idea of making a table top for a dining room table although I'm unsure of the practicalities of it at the minute. I've decided that it would be made up of 40mm staves which I would simply glue along the length without biscuits because of the narrow width. What would...

Oak & Wenge Wine Bottle Holder

I don't know how many people have read this month copy of British Woodworking but whilst flicking through my colleague pointed out one of the featured wine bottle holders. Given this I decided to see what offcuts I had knocking around the workshop so a board of oak and wenge later I had this :)

Choosing and Selecting a Tool Belt

It has been suggested that I get a tool belt for college, I've been looking around it and it seems that they all vary a great deal and never having sourced one before I'm completely in the dark about what's best. I had a quick search in Google and fancied one like this. I had a look on the...

Sourcing a small push latch - help

I've been searching Google for the past few days and I've also tried Rutland and Ironmongery Direct but I don't seem to be able to find anywhere that stocks really small push latches. The regular push latches that are fitted onto cupboard does are about twice the sizes that I'm looking for :(

20" Wooden Jointer Plane Build - WIP - Lots of photo's

I've been toying with the idea of building a plane for quite a while now, I had originally wanted to use maple and wenge but after finding two nice sized offcuts in the scrap at work it was decided that my first plane would be made from oak and black walnut. I started by planing the boards...

    Sourcing blade for wooden planes

I'm trying to find a plane iron for a No.7 wooden plane, I've had a look on eBay and there are various irons, some seem to be for standard cast iron planes whilst some of the more vintage irons appear to be incomplete. I have some steel kicking around but don't think it'd meet the grade if I...

Facon capacitor required for my bandsaw - Help

Does anyone know where I can get a FACON capacitor off the shelf as mine seems to have blown its lid. There is a model number on the side (7G73160N6T), I thought Google would be my friend but it brought up the Maplin website just like every electronic search does but when I visit their site the...

    Key Box

When I came in from the workshop I noticed my old key box that I made when I was about 9 and thought I'd post it up on here just for the sake of it if nothing else :) I just wish my iPhone camera was a little better, lol.

    Setting up a wooden plane

I recently acquired a wooden try plane but I have no idea how to set it up as there's obviously no winding wheel just a wooden wedge retaining the blade. I think someone once told me that it's adjusted with a good old tap from a mallet, is this the case?

    Oak Bedside Cabinet - WIP

It's only just dawned one me that I've not listed anything about a project that I started last year and I'm ashamed to say haven't got round to finishing... and I'm not sure why! Legs planed, stop chamfered and morticed. I cut the taper at the end with a jigsaw and I'm unsure of the result...

Tools stolen - Just feel like a rant!

On Wednesday whilst on the way to college my car slid off the road and into the grass verge. I was doing very little speed but never the less got stuck in the grass about a mile from home so decided to walk back for help. My neighbour brought the tractor out an hour later but couldn't hold it on...

    Gaining confidence after college

I'm getting round to the point now where I'm just about finished college so I'll be leaving the safety of the workshop and heading out into the wide world of carpentry, however real life is a lot, lot different and I was wondering how most people got over the inital fear of having to go out and...

    Clever Tool Chest - Wurth

I was just faffing around on the internet when I came across this tool box which I thought was pretty smart. http://woodgears.ca/tool_holders/toolchest.html I don't know if anyone has seen or made anything similar?

    Heart Locket - Pretty Clever

I was faffing around on YouTube this evening and I have no idea how I came across it but I thought I'd share this with everyone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7U_Z61Mr ... re=related I've found somewhere that makes the actual item but no where that sells the mechanism...

    How much should I charge?

Unfortunately the one thing they fail to teach at college is pricing so when people ask me to hang a door or repair a lining I usually have no idea what to charge. I was asked yesterday if I could remove an external door and frame and replace it will a new one does anyone know how much this...
