Been keeped away from turning of late as the missus wants a garden shed built which at the end of the day is good for me to as I'll get the work shop all to my self. However got an invite to a BBQ last Sunday to a friend who's a bit of a cigar smoker so spent a little time making him this a a small thank you gift. Have know idea what the wood was. This was part of some off cuts given to me from the inlaw and he had know idea also. The wood was light and very easy to turn, yellow and green hue in colour. Would be interested if anyone recognizes it !?

have toyed with turning a chess set myself but the idea of repeating all those pawns puts me off 
Had planned on spending all afternoon in the makerspace but less than half hour into it an engineer turned up to carry out the annual gas safe check on the house, totally forgot I'd booked it for today, thought I had it booked for Thursday with the schools boilers, oh well
got back to it an hour later and managed to get a little something done with the end of the Sycamore branch I cut up Saturday, its a little bulky but I'm pleased with it, sanded to 320 and given an oil finish

Here's a steel string guitar that I recently completed. It's the first acoustic guitar that I've built. It's based on a Martin 0-28 design with western red cedar soundboard and african mahogany back/sides. The neck/body joint is a traditional spanish style (i.e. no dovetails, no bolts). Sounds pretty good to me for a first attempt and is a nice comfy size.

Here's another recent project - a TV stand. A straightforward simple design using oak, with mortise and tenon joints and an oil finish. The solid shelves gave me some practice with jointing, but the oak did give me some issues with tear out. Still, that gave me some further practice (or frustration!) with setting the plane up.

One more project from me - an audio rack. This is a very simple minimalist design in steamed beech, constructed with mortise and tenon joints. Now I may be kidding myself but the sound from the cd player is now better than it was with the previous metal hifi rack (manufactured by Target), my wife thinks so as well (it was kind of her to say so). My Thorens TD160 turntable ( a family heirloom) looks right at home too.

Something very simple this afternoon (at least it should have been). I used a skew chisel, something that I normally try and avoid as it doesn't usually go well for me.
I made a couple of cartridge keyrings, one of them for the farmer who gave me a few spent cartridges.

Beaufort Mistral rollerball, resin and burr oak. melamine, 0000 wire wool, both Yorkshire grits and home made carnauba. Not a high gloss, it's what I was aiming for. (There was no continuity in the blank in the wood grain and very little in the resin.)

A set of steps for my static, first time using loose tenons, and a routing jig to produce them. Took a lot longer than expected 36 hours but that includes jig making. Made entirely from recycled materials.

Having booked a table at the schools summer fair in 5 weeks time so after spending too long staringly blankly waiting for inspiration my gaze settled on some pieces of spalted Ash that came down in last year's storms, I put a piece on and rounded it off then parted it into 4 and turned a set of 4 little bowls

4 more little bowls today, prom another section of Mountain Ash, this time in side grain orientation, the wood is still damp at the core but turns beautifully.
Here's a shot of all 8 of them. They are all roughly 4.5 inches across and 1.5 inches deep

I love that, and am after putting together something similar, but twice the width. What did you use for the sides? MDF or pine furniture board? I would be interested in seeing a build thread on that!
