Would that be the same H&S who think it is OK to have someone from the council to blow the leaves out of the gutter at the side of the road ( using a petrol driven leaf blower that pollutes and makes an ungodly racket ) onto the road and pavements so that vehicles and pedestrians can slip on them.? We have them here too. It used to be a guy with a broom who swept the leaves up, put them into a barrow, and took them away for composting.He retired, so they hired someone else, bought them* a leaf blower ( probably cost as much as a reasonable condition second hand car, broom costs €10.oo, lasts a year, barrow costs €30.oo , last for years ), called it progress.
*Using our money ( paid out of council taxes ) to run their circus.

The leaf blower gets my vote as worlds most useless invention, you could eat a chocolate teapot and a clockwork pencil sharpener would provide exercise.

The twins are 7 months old today and a couple of weeks ago we moved them to their own bedroom. I was not happy with a electricity socket at their reach and started thinking how to protect them but still have access to it.

Not trying to be too negative, but I would be very wary of having a socket on a shelf in a child's bedroom, notorious for knocking over drinks and playing with water, even a retractable socket would have been better IMO.

Took a break from reorganizing the maker space and rounded off a couple more lumps of the Ash I picked up in January and then as one of the teachers is leaving at the end of the week I turned a little Oak pencil pot from some branches I gathered from the school grounds. Sanded to 320 and finished with Danish oil.

A couple of Oak eggs for the ladies in the office as they are on diets so can't eat chocolate, sanded to 320, abrasive paste then wax to finish
Once they were done I decided I wanted a bigger one, some of you may recall sometime last year I got my hands on a silver birch burl on a branch that had fallen from the tree
Everytime I look at this I've wanted to do something with it but it looked like it would be more bark than wood, I cut the ends off and mounted it between centres, turned a tenon and put it in the chuck, rounding it off was messy and painful on my hand, the little bits of bark were like sharp bullets, it took some patience to get good cuts and get it to shape, I sanded it up to 600 and then gave it a coat of linseed oil and oh boy is it gorgeous
loads more actual wood than I was expecting. Looks great when on the lathe and still wet, looks just as good on my desk at work
