OK so perhaps I shouldn't have bought 'brass' screws from screw fix because the ones I got are steel screws with brass plating - I need to put them into hardwoods (oak, ash, cherry etc.) and want solid brass, not plated, even if just for my own sake.

I know that rutlands do brass screws e.g.

http://www.rutlands.co.uk/cabinet-hardw ... ass-screws

but I see there are other sources too such as

http://www.screwsline.co.uk/brass_wood_screws_csk.php

and they have a good set of sizes from 0 . 1/4 upwards - and they seem to be cheaper but does anyone know of other recommended suppliers?

I'm also looking for suppliers of hardware; I know that rutlands do them but want to see what other people offer too. I'm looking for brass / copper smaller cabinet ware such as Centre Pivot Hinges, card frames, pulls etc. ins smaller sizes.

I'm sure it has been asked many times before on this forum, but I just can't see how to search the forum.

I live nearby and popped into J Shiner & Sons Ltd in Seaford, East Sussex today. They only moved there in April, hence not knowing they were there. They seemed friendly, have plenty of stock of stuff for cabinet makers and architectural lines as well. Would be worth trying out IMHO.
