American pork chop style guards in UK?

Are the American pork chop style guards on planer thicknessers allowed over here? Never see them. Can’t say I’m a big fan of the over and under guards. Although they do keep the blades covered at all times. The swing type guard covers the portion of blades not covered by the timber. Any thoughts?

    Mouse freezing in XP

I leave my computer on all the time, just turn the screen off. Next morning when I go to use it, the mouse has frozen. Occassionally it freezes during use. The only way to get it back has been to reboot. Ctrl+alt+del or the windows button doesn't work when it has frozen. I have replaced the ps2...

How big - New double garage (workshop)

I'm looking at renovating and extending our cottage. Part of that means extricating it from the bank! There is a large space at the top side that is unused. As part of the terracing/landscaping I see the opportunity to add a large double garage. What is the ideal size and shape for a workshop...

What are the main components for making a cyclone?

What are the main components for making a cyclone? I already have a 3hp induction motor from an old Scheppach TKU tablesaw. Could I use it to drive the fan? Where could I buy a fan unit/housing? Do they fit straight onto the motor? I intend to install it in the woodstore behind my workshop so...

Any Gardeners about? What do I plant in this? (with pics)

Hi Guys, We've just had steps/retaining walls built and now I need to plant up the chalk banks. I want to somehow knit the loose chalk together with carpeting plants. I've tried drilling pockets with a 4" core bit but it's just too loose. I've tried drilling it with a post auger but it just...

Anybody use Tormek jigs on Highspeed grinder

I've just bought into the Tormek TNT system. Looking at my old gouges that are all sorts of angles it struck me that it would be a lot faster to do the initial reshaping on a normal grinder first. I was thinking of buying a spare horizontal base for the jig bar and mounting it somehow to the...

Looks great though don't you think. If my numbers ever come up I'd certainly know how to spend a few bob...

When routing housings in router table, what extraction works

Hi, I have the found the extraction on my home made router table is excellent when the bit is closely surrounded by the apperture in the fence. When cutting housings though , the bit is some distance from the fence and that method of extraction can't be used. Connecting the extractor to the...
