Hi Folks,

As mentioned in some of my previous threads I've only been turning for 3 months but my tools are simply terrible, very bad quality steel, poor handles etc.

I would like to purchase a set of tools (say 3-5 tools) that will allow me to explore the basics of turning as I learn but still give me the quality in a tool that I need. Budget in the range of £100.

Found lots of options online but thought I would check with you kind people first (any offers welcome, ).

Aw the best. \:D/

I often recommend the Perform range of turning tools. They are a good starter set of tools. About the cheapest you can buy too. No need to buy the set if you don't want them all. What sort of turning do you want to do? Spindles? Bowls? Everything?

Lee.
Take a look in CHJs How to's and safety post on the opening page.
There is some useful info their.
What sort/type of turning do you want to concentrate on :?:

I'd like to try and do a bit of everything just until I find something that works for me.

Thanks for the thread reminder, I have read it previously but forgot all about it, doh!

What you need is the Robert Sorby 67HS starter set, the tools are really good quality, and will be almost everything you need as a beginner. I started off with this set, and it did me for about a year before I bought a larger bowl gouge and some other, more specialised bits and bobs. I still use these tools every time I'm at the lathe. You won't be disapointed.

Or here with a free DVD (but a little bit more expensive)

Hi.

I don't normally advocate buying 'sets' as these are the manufacturers choice of what you "need", although admittedly they do usually offer some sort of discount against buying individually. If the Sorby set is your choice check out poolewood.co.uk for a decent price.

Cheers,

Neil.

I've found Rutlands Dakota range very good value and not too shabby (although their customer service rep has little to recommend them).
