With a table top of 7/8" thick having formic top surfaceand plywood below, could the opening for the router plate just be cut with a router straight through the table with a template of timber just stuck down with double sided tape. Or is this a 'dodgy' way to go about it?

I have seen videos where a template is cut out of another surface first then that template being used to cut/route through the table top, but when no supporting 'lip' is not needed, it seems a quicker way to work. The plate (Kreg) would be supported by the Kreg leveling blocks at each corner. ???

already answered on the other forum, but honestly Malcolm, time to forget youre a man, and read the instructions.
i've made 3 tops now using kreg plates and instructions, doesnt really get much simpler.
And dont forget to double up, 7/8" will not last.
