pe2dave, I have used a velcro pad as posted by Essex Workshop for many years, so much so it has started to "crumble". Can't beat it highly receomended, mine is the 150mm version.
 
Not sure why you'd need a velcro pad at all. Hand held around a block is fine. 6" disc just right for a 4x2" cork or wood block.
 
Simple, because the post bype2dave was whether anyone had experience of using a velcro block for circular discs. I doubt there is a woodworker who hasn't used a wood or cork block but that wasn't the question. The velcro block is very light and the abrasive does not creep along a wood block. Another plus is that you can use it on its side for narrow work surfaces again without having to grip the abrasive.
