Sorry, been watching The Tigger Movie today (again)

I have run out of double sided tape. I use it a lot, it seems. The last roll was from Axi, but with delivery it makes it £23 for two rolls.

Does anyone have a cheaper source? IIRC the stuff from B&Q was about as useful as Anton Fitzpatrick... on valium.

I'm using it mainly for sticking wood to wood. Either for templates or now for sticking wood to the sleds that go through the CNC. I haven't tried trade carpet tape, but the stuff from B&Q was carpet tape and it didn't actually stick to anything. I don't know any carpet fitters. Maybe somewhere like toolstation might have better stuff?

Carpet stuff any good? Talk to your local friendly fitter who must buy it by the mile.

Bob

Zakly. Mine comes from Toolstation (for carpets) and it's cheap. It's also really sticky, but I use double sided Sellotape for flattening chisel and plane irons, as it's a bit thinner and grips tighter (stick a block of wood on the back as a temp handle). It's a PITA getting it off afterwards though.

so just buy more stuff from axminster to get the free carriage - there must be 50 quids worth of tooly goodness you "need"

Did I miss the thread, when did this happen, you have a CNC machine now? Please do tell all!

I'm having a tight week Pete. Just splashed out on a ProEdge with the ull plethora of accessories and now I'm feeling all Ebenezer.

For some reason I didn't think of SF or TS. Thisstuff looks like the stuff. They do a cheap one, but having a bad experience with the stuff in the past, I'll go with the spendier stuff. It's still cheaper than axi. It's good because I need a load of making tape.

So I've answered my own question :D

he heard i had one, and he just had to keep up with the mooses

"mine" (well works actually but its mine to play with) is a RoutoutCNC Z90P with a kres router - powered by Mach 3 and Vcarve pro.

Chems, mine isn't a proper CNC machine. Well it is. The mechanics are. But it's locked down to only use their software. Which makes it a bit more of an adventure to get the most out of it. It's called a CarveWright. Only available in America, I got it 2nd hand from an infrequent user here. I'm still learning the ropes. Will be a long time before I have anything worth while to show. I might start a thread on the subject, I might not :)

Wizer, for holding stuff down on the cnc machine I use Mammoth Powergrip double sided tape. It's mega strong, and it's only about 2 quid a roll from my local hardware shop. I quick google search should find you a supplier. I can highly recommend it.

You want to use an Abrasive of some sort really, much quicker.

Yeh I didn't get that, do you mean you stick the abrasive down with them?

You do, sort of, you just don't know it

I'll ask Karen to see if she can snag a roll for you tomorrow - we've usually got loads in the wharehouse. It's proper stuff mind, with an open cross weave core and pressure sensitive adhesive, and it can be a pipper to get off porous stuff like MDF - iss well sticky innit.

Keep an eye out in Lidl as they do a pretty good line in specialist tapes every now and then.

The Lidl stuff is indeed good, think it's the Powerfix branded stuff. 15 m for a quid or quid fifty, got a few rolls last time it was in stock. Very sticky, used some only yesterday for template routing and it is more than adequate for such tasks.

Tom - I use the Focus carpet tape. It's ultra sticky both sides.

Better than the Trend stuff I bought from Axminster, and much cheaper (about a fiver a roll IIRC).

Cheers

Karl

Thanks Noel.
Good info!

I use the Sellotape d/s tape I bought from Homebase a while ago...good stuff, around £6 a roll if memory serves - Rob
