I’ve decided to bite the bullet and upgrade from my Axi 250N bandsaw and it just so happens that there is a Record Power event at Yandles tomorrow where, if rumour is true, it may be possible to get a discount and, possibly, free carriage.
Although cost isn’t a huge problem, I would like one of the new Record Power Sabre 350s, there are a couple of constraints. My workshop is in the basement with only 1.90 metres headroom. Allowing 10 cms for my mobile base plus another 10 cms to be able to get to the tension adjustment knob, the maximum height can be no more than 1.70 metres. What’s more, the saw has to be got down either a comparatively narrow staircase inside the house or down some outside steps that are very steep and somewhat slippery. As such, the weight of the machine is also an issue. These constraints rule out the RP 350N and the new RP Sabre 350. Looking at the RP and Axminster websites gives the following machines that satisfy the height constraint although the Axy 350 might cause a weight problem.
Axminster 310N Axminster 350N Record Power 300N
Height 1.680 1.700 1.690
Weight kg 80.0 95.0 86.0
Motor watts 550 850 750
Cutting depth 180 200 190
Cost £500.00 £700.00 £500.00
On the face of it, the RP 300 looks to be the best bet or am I missing something?
N.B. RP normally charge for carriage but Axy will deliver for free.
P.S. Sorry but I can't work out how to tab across to line up the columns.
