Can I fit a diamond blade to my Dewalt SCM saw?

I have a great saw for my wood but it would be nice to cut some bricks with the same level of accuracy - is it possible to fit a diamond blade to the saw or is this a stupid idea? Thanks Miles

    Fruit cage - 2x2"?

I am about to design and build a fruit cage for my father. It will be c. 3x8m ad 2m tall. Initially I am thinking: 1) timber to be 2x2" 2) I will mount it on replaceable sticks into the ground to allow for rotting 3) The bottom of the legs to be connected for greater stability and ease of...

how to extract a stuck bit / colette from a router?

I have not used the router for a few months and now find that the bit I used is stuck in there. Obviously I can't use oil to release it as the next one will just spin so what can I do? I have undone the nut which secured the pairing and can now see the colette but can't work out how to release...

    Low sulphur wood?? For silver

I want to make a box to contain some gold gilted silver and apparently it needs to be in a box which is made of a wood which doesn't give off much / any sulphur as it will tarnish the silver (even where gilted). Any ideas? Will cocoobola do? Miles

Bowl from a plank for critique

As normal I'd love any comments / critique on my challenge bowl which was formed from a single 18mm plank dovetailed with a maple accent. This is the first time I've done one of these and also the first ever dovetail I'd made and took rather a long time after it flew off the lathe in the middle...

Which Random Orbit Sander + confusion over Festool...

I have just finished applying some Epoxy as a barrier coating over teak ply - it all went well but the roller has left stipple marks in the glossy finish. I want to sand these out and then work through the grades to get back to a glossy finish. I am assuming that a Random Orbital Sander is the...

Mod Edit: Pvt_Ryan Bowl Critique, post moved to May comp

Mate - if you've got "proof" that you missed by such a small margin you might be better to ask Blister if you can be snuck in - I remember one month I was having a pineapple of a time submitting the pictures and the deadline seemed not to close till just after I'd finally managed it.... Unless...

Face frame - what to do with the bottom shelf?

I am about to build a shelf unit out of ply (18mm) and I would prefer that the ply edges are not shown. The unit will sit on a plinth, sited against a wall with the left hand side sticking into the room (forming a divider). My initial thought was to just apply lipping to all exposed edges (say...

urgent - finish to apply over paint?

Hi all I have just done a little project with the children where they have sponged washable paint (which will apparently not come out from porous surfaces like wood which is good) over an unfinished wooden bowl. I want to seal in the paint and give a slightly smoother finish to it. I was...

    Tacometer from mains voltage

I want to have a true shaft revs read out on my lathe. I have some memory of this being done on kit cars etc by having a magnet attached to the shaft and some sensor being placed neaby to count the pulses - one pulse = 1 rev. I expect that I can sort this out on a 12v supply but does anyone...

    Critique on my candlestick please...

I am very proud of my entry this month - it represented a number of brand new things for me (skew, off centre, spindle, cutting bowls up and design of something other than a bowl) and of these I found the mist intimidating the inabiliity to come to the forum for design assistance :) As such I'd...

    what's a platter?

I know that this seems like a daft question but what defines a platter - I know it's got to be thin but does any soft of bowl shape (dish) rule it out; does a foot rule it out; etc? Many thanks Miles
