help ive got a makita saw dilemma

Have been using a '1013 for more than 5 years with no real probs - had to shim a dummy fence ( have seen this mod on most properly set up scms ) to correct the indexing but thats about it, the dust bag is a joke, but is fairly tidy if is plumbed to a vac.It still runs true and will cut to...

    earnshaw bros

From the photo it looks like the wedge has been cut short - leaving the contact area small and only farther up the blade Try cutting a new wedge, where the taper ends considerably deeper into the block :)

    Dewalt or Makita?

either will handle the job as long as you take light passes , remember they are primarily portable site tools and definately lightly built , as far as I am aware there is the option for TCT with the makita , which may pay dividends unless you have the facility for sharpening blades of that size...

    Planer knives.

Not sure of this model , but be wary - some HSS disposables are marketed as "resharpenable" as they can be honed apparently - very misleading Salvage

Anyone using one of these stands

Nope you'll need to knock up an adapter plate(s) as the footprint of the makita is wider than the dewalt's mountings , also the bed height is higher on the makita so if your adapter plate is too thick the work supports will not extend high enough and will also require extending , (a bit of ally...

    Planer thicknesser problem, any ideas?

if the feed mechanism is definitely working, another issue that could have been overlooked - is your extractor clearing the chips effectively ? its possible that the chips could be wedging against the outfeed roller and stalling the feed

    when do you??

Not sure of the question dicktimber Are you asking a question relating to wear or use ? As a couple of posters have said- through using your saw you should be able to gauge when resistance to cutting is reaching unacceptable/unsafe limits and/or see that the quality of the cut falls below...

    Speaker Designer seeks cabinet maker

smallangryboy: I took a look at your website and your designs certainly have visual appeal and I'm assuming have the ability to reproduce sound to a quality acceptable to all but the most obsessive audiophiles (which in my experience are never truly satisfied ). I'm not in a position to offer...
