Hi all,

I'm new to this forum so please accept apologies if I transgress any rules etc.

I have been pulling my hair out on 2 counts lately, both with regard to sourcing supplies.

My early forays into anything like "proper" woodworking, as opposed to DIY (hanging doors etc), was when I bought my first router. I instantly realised this was an amazing tool and soon my collection of cutters exceeded the value of the machine itself.

I endeavored to make a wooden 6 board box to protect my new investment. This would be the first of many boxes, the first used rebate joints, I now use a dovetail jig for stronger joints.

Anyway, I digress, the point is that I wanted to use decorative hinges and case clips for my boxes. I have failed miserably to find consistency here.

Until about 5 years back a national day shed carried a nice line of polished brass hinges and a few case fittings by Stanley.

These were just what I wanted but are nowhere to be found since, unless you know different? The irony is that the hinges were brill, but, could I find anywhere that sold polished brass case clips? The only ones to be had were electro plated brass or nickel.

I've had the Isaac Lord catalogue and screwfix etc don't carry anything like what i'm after.

Any help on this would be brill.

Since then I've moved on to slightly larger projects and am keen to find a supplier of turned table legs, again the DIY sheds used to sell these but alas no longer.

I can hear the cries of derision, but I simply don't have the time at the moment to explore another branch of woodworking so am content for now to buy ready made to satisfy the requirements of my chief customer, her indoors!

Sorry if I've rambled...
cheers
Mitch

Dave,

Thanks for the reply, however it looks like they only do the EP Brass and Nickel, looks like an excellent site though, it's now in my favourites.

cheers

Mitch,

I have posted this list before somewhere here but can't locate it. Anyway, some of these may be useful - not all in the UK but that is par for the course when looking for special stuff
