Heavier: Phil Keaggy (album "220", but pretty much anything really)*.
Gentle jazz: Grover Washington Jr. ("Then & Now")

I found these on YT just yesterday, at first I thought it would be a parody played for laughs but I think they are actually very good and there are some excellent polished performances.
No fixed lineup apart from the pianist who runs the outfit, Haley Reinhart is very good as an occasional lead singer but so are the others that feature:

Hot summers in the 1970s, with Fluff on VHF on Saturday, playing Rain Dances...
We had a West region TV arts magazine caller "RPM" and I remember dubbing a feature on Mark King. There was some slow-mo of his right hand action. I was so demoralized afterwards I almost gave up bass! Wonderful stuff. He has his own brand of basses now, apparently.

Semi-acoustic, quite different mood.
I've only heard him live once (I think he's only been to the UK once!). Drove from Bristol to Croydon to hear him play solo at a Sally Army hall. Absolutely packed (we sat on the steps of the balcony as it was full) captivated us for two hours - one guitar plus FX rack as tall as he is.

Bet no one has heard of him, but check him out. Virtuosity and beauty beyond belief.

Watching him for a while reminded me of a bass playing friend's comment while watching Javier Mas when I said he made it look so easy - have you any idea how many thousands of hours practice it took to make it look that easy?

On the guitar-centric theme (slightly off topic),
As a guitar player (of no note whatsoever ) for 40 years, thanks to Eric for Phil Keaggy, and to Woodbrains for Clive Carroll. Amazing. Never heard of either.
Not forgetting iNewbie's David Brent link which made me laugh (the sex is free?)
Suggestions for other enthusiasts, Al Di Meola - not unknown but not "popular", and "Rodrigo y Gabriela" - a couple who are amazing and still going strong - I saw them about ten years ago and their energy is incredible.
