Greetings All,
I seem to remember a list of timber yards somewhere on the site. I have had a look around with no luck, anybody point me in the right direction please? I tried the UKW search in the side bar for yards within 50k of Huddersfield and it comes up blank, odd? Many thanks Becks

Thanks Alex, see what you mean, pretty useless. I am making a kitchen table for my son who lives in Huddersfield, I need him to look at some suitable timber for the top. I live down south. Anybody know of a yard/mill he could go to?
Many thanks Becks

Yes I tried using it yesterday and apparently there is nothing up in this part of Yorkshire!

Searching the web there is Garrards in Huddersfield, and James Chambers in Halifax, I have not used the former. I have had mixed service with the latter from very good a few years ago to unhelpful jobsworth on the counter recently. There may also be some Bradford way and in Leeds worth exploring.

There's also someone on eBay "igotthelot" who is regularly selling lots of small batches of off cuts of various timber, who apparently has a small shop in Halifax.

Good luck with the table and let us know if you find a good supplier.

Thank you for the leads, for some naive reason, I thought there would be lots of quality timber yards in the north of England, wishful thinking I suppose? Wonder where old school joiners like Jacob buy their stuff? Dare I ask? Boddys looks favorite at the moment, I,ll give them a ring. Thanks again Becks

I hope you don't think I'm trying to hijack your thread, but I was about to ask the same question of the other side of the hills. I'm in Manchester, and it seems the nearest yard in the list is Ambrose McGrath in Liverpool. He seems to be able to get anything, but I was hoping to find somewhere that has more of a selection available that I can view/pick-through. Does anyone know of anywhere in the North (East or West, I'm not fussy!)? I see the recommendation for John Boddy - is that somewhere that you can peruse their stock, and do they cater for hobbyists and not just massive clients?

Boddys is a bit pricey to be honest. There is a place near York in a village called Wilberfoss that is far more affordable, air dried stuff too which is fairly cool. There is also a tiber yard in Hull, but I can't remember it's name...

Richard Potter in Nantwich have a good selection and are happy to sell single boards. http://www.fortimber.demon.co.uk/
