Hello All,

Is there guidance or Golden Rule regarding Rail and Stile ratios/widths?

Some internal cupboard shaker style doors along a wall each 'gap' is aprox 1000mmx1050mm so 500/1050 doors (plus overlap). Will likely go for an intermediate/middle Rail.

First foray into shaker doors and i'm sure i'm overthinking it but just wondered if there was an easy rule to start from.

Thank you.

Generally bottom rails are visibly wider than top, or stiles.
Some may follow arbitrary rules but not everybody. More about function, and what stock is available.

Thank you for replying, as ever i'm overthinking it. If i've got the material and it looks right, it'll be fine.

Thanks both.

My rule of thumb is that the rail spacing should be about the same as the width of the door, making the diagonals, if any, (is there a technical name for them?) at about 45 degrees
