or you can get a fairly cheap diamond stone.
i've got one that has 4 different grits on each side. It's not the best but quite good, especially for initially getting a blade into shape.
You could also try and check how flat the surface of your hand plane is too. It's pretty easy to fix too, just stick some high grit sanding paper to something totally flat like glass.
