What's a hand plane? I do have a hand plane although hardly use it. I have never found the plug to it? I think it is an old Record one of around 5" keep it just in case of a power cut. :?

* New Record #5 Jack - not too bad but must replace the plastic handles.

* Via eBay, old Stanley #7 Jointer - definitely my favourite!

Someone loaned me a #7 ages ago and I never thought I could use such a big thing - but got used to it and had to have my own - anything smaller feels like a toy now :)

Six monthly update due. Anyone any new planes to add? Or new members who wish to list? Please see the rules on Page 1, not brand names, just model type if possible.

Let's see...I'm growing into a bit of a handplane junkie, I fear.

9 ½ block
No. 4
No. 4 ½
No. 5
No. 6
22" woodie try plane
9” coffin smoother converted to scrub plane
5” wooden block (needs new wedge)
Various card scrapers

In the not too distant future I would like to add:
60 ½

3
4
4.5
5
6
7
8

The 3 and 7 were good deals. The 4 was just too pretty not to buy. But then so was the 5. I tend to like the big/heavier ones best. 4.5,6 and 8

Various block planes.

Except for one of the 6s all are at least 60 years old.

I barely had anything to post in here a month ago!

Now, I have:

No. 4.5
No. 5
No. 60.5
No. 220
No. 778
No. 44

Probably enough, really, but I'm quite taken by some of these shoulder planes that people have been talking about...

The ones I like using are:

#3
#4 1/2
#5 1/2
#7
#077 bullnose
#220 block

Apart from the #3 and #220 which I bought new many, many years ago, they're all secondhand and pretty old. After cleaning up, fettling, and regrinding the blades, they work very well.

I've just bought a new V*****s #80 scraper - it's excellent.

I also have a few other bench/block planes which I don't use much, so I may sell them to help raise funds for one of those unmentionable US or Canadian goodies.

Any more want to jump on board, before I do an update?

Remember, please read the first page, no brands at all, this is about plane types not brands/manufacturers

No. I think the results that are most interesting is to see what John (or Jane) Doe have as their users. People with collections rather skew the results

Oooo, not fair! I was actually going to re-do to reflect what I've been using but I sharn't now. [-(

Which would be interesting, but I ain't going to trawl back through and delete anything you don't have. For interests sake, I'm still interested so see what you are using now though....
