For (large) garden gates with FLB construction, what is the ideal angle for the brace to be at? I've seen a couple of posts saying not to exceed 45 degrees, but I'm not sure why. Does that mean 45degrees is "best"?

Also, a few posts say it is good practice to inset the brace 50mm or so away from the stile/rail joint and let it into the rail so that it doesn't try to push the joint apart. Does this apply to both ends of the brace? It sounds like a good idea but I've never seen an example.
