Hi guys :D , can you offer me some advice on finishing of my built in wardrobes? To refresh your memory the wardrobes are made from 18mm birch ply, and the shelves are supported with 20mm by 20mm battens.

I have two problems mainly.
My first problem is, two of the shelves have gaps at the side between the edge of the shelf and the carcass side.

Would a light coloured filler be ok to use to conceal the gap :?:
Or what else should i use :?:

My second problem is, it was suggested to me use a clear acrylic finish, which i was keen to do. But she who must be obeyed wants the wardrobes stained the same colour as the antique pine effect sliding doors which is also the colour of all the other furniture in the room.

What would be best to use to stain the birch to get a pine colour :?:
What is the rubbing down and staining procedure :?:
What is it best to use to apply the stain with :?:

Tanks for all you help so far, i hope you dont mind answering my questions.

thanks :D
