I'm renovating a slightly worn teak coffee table; at least I think it's teak, but am not sure. The top surface was worn and patchy in colour, the rest of the table was darker. I've sanded off the remaining finish from the top, it seemed like a layer of lacquer, possibly stained, though hard to be sure. The table came from Malaysia and I have two bookcases of the same wood with the same dark red finish. The surface seemed to have a thin layer on it, that's why I reckon it was not oiled/waxed.

I would like to re-finish the top to blend into the remaining wood colour. I've got various oils, waxes, varnish and lacquers, and plan to just try testing an area on the underside of the table to try to find the best match.

Meantime, does anyone have any ideas on what type of wood this is, and any better suggestions on how to watch the top colour?

Thanks for your help on this!
