Hi all.

My wife was given a solid wood fire surround, (Oak), in payment. She was told that it was built in the 30s. It has been darkened somehow. The colour is only on the surface so easily sanded off.
What we would like to do is sand it down to natural wood. The question is :- What finish would you recommend to maintain its natural look. We would rather not use varnish, or lacquer.
