Someone in the youtube comments mentions the Bosch GFK 600 will fit a 10" or 12" tom shell but not 8".
 
could you use a dremel and a flexible shaft? Or the proxxon version might be more suited.

If a Dremel would work, I'm pretty sure my whole Dremel would fit inside a 9" diameter cylinder! Recent mains-powered ones have been about 15-20cm long, off the top of my head.
 
Dimokslis - thanks for taking the time to do that! Gives me 50mm clearance inside the rim.

196-235 that's with the base all the way up and the base all the way down. It's also variable speed we're as a lot of the bosh ones aren't. I've had mine about 8 months and I'm very impressed with it! It's routed solid oak doors time and time again as well as many small tasks and it's been great!
