Can anyone offer some advice on which dust/chip extractor to purchase for a small garage workshop.
There appears to be a large selection from Axminster to Machine Mart - any advice/information would be appreicated.

I bought a couple cheap on ebay this week. Best thing about a DC is as soon as you use it it gets dirty so a second hand one is fine! There were a few ADE2200 going which are very powerful and have a small footprint.

If you're looking to collect large chips from a planer, thicknesser or router table then most people would recommend you start with something like Axminster's ADE1200, which is a chip collector (I think BSM might be selling his, soon?).

For fine dust from saws, sanders and power tools though, you'd want a High Pressure Low Volume vacuum-type extractor. If you tried to reduce the hose diameter on a HVLP chip extractor, you'd experience a great loss of suction. Also, on those types, the very fine dust only escapes back out through the filter bag and in to your workshop (unless you could afford a filter cartridge upgrade...).
