Best finish for childrens toys

I am thinking of making my kid a dinosaur jigsaw out of 18mm MDF. However I am not sure what paint or finish to use. I was thinking about using non toxic acrylic paint. Due to it being a jigsaw I don't think the paint would last long. Is there a finish that I could put on that is child friendly. Or is there any paints that I could use.

The paint for children furniture should toxic free.
But usually the water-based acrylic paint is considered quite safe for children.

Would reconmend Food Safe Finish from chestnut products

It's OK to poison your own kids (as long as it isn't deliberate) but if you are selling toys they have to comply with EN71 I believe. Most paint suppliers should be able to tell you if their products pass.
Humbrol and other paint for kids is probably OK but perhaps ask first.
