Hello to all.

First post and a bit of a novice so hopefully I'll be understood.

Up until now have used a Screwfix dovetail jig to produce box finger joints, with varying degrees of success.

I have a project that requires 3/4 through dovetail joints and have binned the screwfix jig for a trend CDJ600 with a CDJ600/06 comb. Thing is I don't really understand the instructions for the set up for the 3/4 comb nor, for that matter the CDJ600/02 comb. #-o must be age

I know the comb is flipped over but how do I set up so the finished pieces are flush top and bottom?

Sorry if this may be a bit vague but not quite sure how to pose the questions.

Cheers.

Its all the do with the projection of the comb and the projection of the cutter, its really trick to set up, that's why I sold mine and do them by hand.

Tried that. What a mess!

Well, yes, my first was a mess, too. And the second. But after a few they started to look better. Not good, but better. And then I got one I was pleased with. It doesn't take hundreds of attempts, but you are not going do them perfectly for the first few. But the satisfaction is of knowing that your skills are improving all the time.

I've agreed to give someone a DT primer next Tuesday. I laughed when he asked me. I know how DTs are cut, but it's a very long time indeed since I cut one by hand. Even on the BS, actually. So that should be fun. Still, the good thing about teaching is that you don't have to be good, you just have to be better than the pupil :)

Keep trying, and keep the first one to remind you are how far you have come.

cut a dovetail a day, save them and look back at easter time to see your progress.
