Les Paul build - update fingerboard inlays

Trust me, they were a tight fit some of them, the holes were needed!

Les Paul build - update fingerboard inlays

The holes on the fingerboard were a bit of forward planning, I knew the inlays wouldn't fit perfectly first time and that some fitting and fettling would be required so I'd need to pop them out. As the fit is supposed to be snug I felt the easiest way to do this without damaging the routs was to...

Les Paul build - update fingerboard inlays

Now then, here's an old project that anyone with a long memory will have thought would never see the light of day again (me included...). I finally decided to MTFU and tackle the fiddly jobs and take this to a finish. So, where were we 2 years ago, ah yes I'd glued on the binding and needed to...

    Run Flat Tyres

I read Honest John too and he tends to be pretty fair and even with his responses and info, I also remember that stat and it was something like 20-30 mins being the average amount of time from stopping on the hard shoulder to being hit. If true then a pretty sobering stat. I had to replace a...

    Kiln Dried Oak Supplier

If I were you then based on what you've said I'd be paying a visit to British Hardwoods and Arnold Laver, both have been good for me in the past

    Wipe, sand or scrape

I'm with Jim, try and get when rubbery but that often fails (as I glue up and do something else and forget about it), so end up chiselling, scraping or sanding

    I'm Really Naffed Off!!

I think you're wrong there Andy, I've had my card cloned a couple of times and it was only thr prompt action of the bank that identified the attempted fraud and blocked it. They have very good algorithms that build up a history of your spending activities and jump in when it looks irregular...

    Favourites?

Ah yes, the oil checking Roger... A litre every 1000 or so miles was roughly what mine went through, I liked to think of it as self-oil changing! Always had a hankering for a 200SX, fairly understated, well made, powerful enough and quite keen to get the tail out. Other half had a Puma which...

    Favourites?

What did you think of the Fiat Coupe Roger? I had the 20VT and loved it, most reliable car I've owned, well put together, stylish and very quick. Just no good for lugging timber I've had: Land Rover SWB Series 3 - had its challenges Renault 19 - rubbish Honda Civic - dull but worthy BMW 325...

Veneer bubbled after laquering. What are the options ?

You may not be an intravenous drug user but needles are what you need, I've used something similar in the past where I needed to do a tricky glue repair. Somewhere like this should help http://www.newmodellersshop.co.uk/delux ... ge_kit.htm

    A1

Mick my problem with bimbling along at those speeds for mile after mile is that I start to lose concentration, I know I shouldn't but I do. Your mind wanders, you're not engaged with the road and your attention goes. On a clear road and I get back to 85/90 it's full concentration and I'm much...

Woke up feeling a little frayed? Wild dreams?

If I'm ever stupid/desperate enough/have no other beer to drink and I drink Budweiser then by the time I've got to the bottom of the second bottle I have a headache. A straw poll in the office shows I'm not alone and I believe Clarkson also described it as a headache in a can. Foul stuff. I'd...

    Lightbulbs

I think the electricity supply to our house is a little up and down so i can't be 100% clear, but we have a load of halogens in the house and the 2 year life expectancy is a load of cock. Every few months I'm off to B&Q to shell out another 30 quid for a stock of bulbs. Re LEDs, me and the boys...

    Graduates' recent work

I had the pleasure of seeing these pieces come together in the shop and then at the end of year show. Once again a brilliant selection and a lot of genuine talent on show. You must be proud Richard

John Boddy catalogue / wood identification

Very hit and miss I've found for quality of selection, went hunting for some cherry and ABW last year and came away with nothing. Went to Lavers in Leeds instead and came away much happier with a bootful of timber. British Hardwoods in Keighley also very good. I have the paper version of that...

    Oak Prep question please

Should be okay, you often find worm holes in oak where the sap wood is - ie just where you're describing. Oak sap is soft, prone to worm and ugly, trim it off and use the rest
