    Garden bench try-out

Just finished this garden bench. It's made from yellow poplar because it's a try-out for the real thing, finished with heavily thinned marine spar varnish (wiping varnish). Sorry no wip pictures, never seem to think about those. I'll take some when i need to make another one.

    some forum members behaviour

Since a couple of months of starting to check up on the forum again i've gotten quite annoyed (to strong a word but to empasize it) with some forum members behavior. I'm not a frequent poster but a frequent reader, so maybe i have a little less of a say. Sometimes they seem like a bunch of...

Looking for a new corded drill driver, with clutch

I've been looking all over the net for a new drill driver and i'm very very reluctant to get a new cordless one. The one i would really like is a ryobi zrd47ck or a dc46CK. http://www.amazon.com/Factory-Reconditioned-Ryobi-ZRD47CK-Corded-Variable/dp/B003ZDG10M/ref=pd_cp_hi_0. It's a corded...

Bookshelf WIP - need some help

I'm in the progress of working on a book-shelf/display stand and have run into a problem. There's too much room between the shelves making it look too tall. Frames are 1200mm high and 400mm wide, shelves are 1200 x 352. How to solve this ? Add another shelf or lower the frames. Adding a...

plane blade's edge turning blue during use

I recently noticed the edges of a couple of O1 plane blades turning blue during planing. Is this normal ? The one pictured was mainly used on soft maple and walnut. I rarely plane exotics. I also have the impession the edge retention is quite low, haven't recorded exact time but a...

Record power's excellent after sales service, almost

I recently bought a secondhand BS 350 X through ebay. When i got home to setup the machine i discovered that the rip fence was convex along it's height. Could've easily solved it with a new shimmed mdf or ply face, but i thought what the heck and contacted Record Power. After another mail...

    Japanese Okdeo daiko

I just finished roping my latest drum. It's an okedo daiko-style drum. The shell is a sipo mahogany stave shell, stained with aniline dye and finished with shellac. The heads are cow, sewn around metal rings. Total size is about 82 cm in diameter and 78 cm's high. Added some reinforment...

    1/8 inch bandsaw blade question

I've got my eye on a well preserved kity 613. This bandsaw seems spec'd for 1/4 inch blades and up but i would like to be able to put a 3mm blade on it. There are only a few bandsaws that are spec'd to receive 3mm bandsaw blades. What makes a bandsaw accept 3mm blades or is it possible to...

latest addition to my plane collection, a small spoon plane

I needed a tool to carve the inside of a big drum i'm making. Ibex and herdim violin maker's planes cost a ton and i needed a plane that was a tad bigger so i made myself a new addition to my plane collection. It's a sipo and hickory body with a piece of an old jointer blade i had. Works...

    New smoother underway

Started on my next plane build. It's going to be a 4 1/2 type of plane, made of a walnut body with a hickory sole. I started with the fun part first and made the tote. I'm toying with the idea of adding lead to the main block for that extra bit of weight.

    Jet jpt-310 problem

When thicknessing stock, i have to push and pull it through, no matter how much or little wood i take of. Has anyone had this problem before. I pressume the problem is the rubber outfeed roller slipping. I do put some paraffin on the boards, the side which is on the table, to make them slide...

    Round table WIP

I started on the first piece of furniture for myself. It's going to be a round table with a 3-legged base. Originaly it was going to be a 4 legged base, but seeing something went awry on one of the legs i ended up changing the design and all the better for it too i think. First i did the...

    bandsaw question

I'm keeping my eyes open for a bandsaw, but am on a tight budget. Can anyone tell me what the UK or US equivalent for this machine is ? Seems a good starter machine at a decent price. http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270680708519&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3629wt_972

    Three legged table base question

I'm working on the first piece of furniture for myself, it's daft how little you get to do for yourself. It will be a circular table with a three-leged base. The base will consist of 3 tapered round legs and 3 cross pieces. I was thinking of connecting the stretcher with 6 half lap notches...

    router collet problems

I was trying to route some round tapered table legs today and i ruined my first one. The router bit started climbing out of the collet. It's an old perles 850 router, also known as the elu mof 96. Also, the collet nut becomes undone quite frequently when routing. Is it just worn or would a...
