Hi,

i have just painted some mdf cubes but would like to protect them with clear water based polyurethane, which brand would you recommend?

I just used normal emulsion paints after applying a primer to match the wall colour.

I haven't got a spray gun so i will either use a roller or brush to apply it.

thanks

Oli

You don't have any of the issues that normally warrant a premium price for Pu varnishes, i.e. you don't need massive levels of UV light protection, which is what spar varnishes deliver. Nor do you need fast drying with a non slip surface, which is what floor varnishes deliver. So basically you'll be okay with the cheapest deal on any name brand.

Good luck!

Hi

I'm not 100% sure that the product I bought was PU but I recently used Rustin's clear gloss varnish, (low VOCs), and I found it to be very poor. In order to achieve a good gloss finish it required five coats whereas the 'hardglase' version I used previously only required two.

Won't be buying it again

Regards Mick
