Where do you buy hardwood?

OK, this may be a bit of a stupid question, but I'd like some suggestions for places in the North West where I can buy decent hardwoods. Ideally I'd like somewhere I can walk in, have a good root around & select boards myself as that way I can see what I'm getting. My local shops don't really cater for this, they can order stuff in but don't have much in stock, and I might want to have a look & a feel before I splash the cash.

Try Irmass in Trafford Park. I don't think they mind you having a root round for the best boards.
