They recently changed tv settings (down here in the West Country anyway) and since change I cannot use some channels unless they are High Definition, so it seems to me.

Channel 5 is hopeless for me trying to set up a recording (I use a Humax recorder)

Who do I contact regarding these changes?
Is there a tv channel advice system to contact or complain with, like a rant?

The tv instructed me to push the yellow button or whatever it was and update my system and now its not an easy system to work with, it used to be 800, 801 etc. and now its 1 2 3 or 101 102 103 104 in hd but no channel five at 105.

The 100 numbers -101, 102,103,104 are all hd channels. As far as I know channel 5's not available on hd yet.

Leaving aside my incredulity that you have found something on channel 5 worth recording, there is a public helpline for this - as described here:
http://www.freeview.co.uk/help

"Want to know more about retuning? What is Freeview plus? Missing some channels? Is your aerial up to scratch? Find out more about all this and more in our help section."

"Still can't find what you're looking for? Call the Freeview advice line:

03456 505050

Open: Mon - Fri 9am - 6pm, Sat 9am - 5pm"

Thanks Andy, all we need to know there regarding free view.
charges are around 12p per minute like 0845 numbers it seems.

It appears my problem is now solved, channel 5 does not have HD, and I had only retuned my tv and I should have retuned my humax recorder as well.

Sometimes there are is a good channel 5 program, not often I admit.

Alot of my recording shedule is for channel 5 -
Gotham
Ncis los Angeles
Wentworth prison
Csi crime scene investigation
Boxing- when they show it

So do you sometimes watch tv without turning the freeview box on- ie via the tvs tuner ? I've never had to tune the tv since having it since everything goes through the freeview box

Not exactly (no freeview boxes as such) but we do occasionally use the TV tuner on the odd occasion program timing clashes when recording two channels on the Humax and watching a third.

Chas. I think on my humax I can watch a third channel whilst two are recording without reverting to the tv tuner.
Mine does this aswell, although only a few select channels are available. With the +1 and +24 channels I've never had a recording conflict I couldn't reschedule. The point I was trying to make, is if you're use to how the humax tv guide works and the general navigation of it unless you want to watch a 3rd channel there's no reason to be tuning the tv at all ;)

On the Humax you can only watch a 3rd channel if it's "emanating" from the same "channel grouping" (I don't know the technical term) as the ones being recorded.
It's very easy to switch and watch through the TV direct - the problem is you cannot record them but have to watch live.

Which model Humax have you got, dw?

My advice to anyone with a PVR is to do a manual tune rather than an automatic one. Very often additional stations from adjacent transmitters get picked up but which may not have the optimum signal quality. Also some may get allocated into Channels 800 and upwards and this can cause confusion inside the PVR.

A manual tune is very straightforward but you'll need to do a bit of homework first to see the 6 or 7 channels that your muxes are on. NB Channels are mux channels in this instance and NOT TV channels.

RogerS mine is the HDFox T2 Humax

I would not know how to go about manual tuning because the last automatic tune up said I have around 172 channels found!

Your manual will explain how to do a manual tune. You do know that you can delete a lot of those channels to save you wading through all the dross to get to the channels you are interested in?

Yeah but I do not know what channels I might want next week, a woodwork channel might be amongst those I decline at manual tune etc.etc.
