Nothing special in the turning technique. Pierre Deletraz is using the same technique as we probably all do, i.e. a lamp bulb introduced in a vase we want to have particularly thin in order to produce a lamp shade.
In the picture he is finishing the exterior thus ensuring than thickness is no bigger tan 1 milimeter .
What I like is the picture.
It looks like he is turning melted metal.
 
Looking at the small piccy i thought it was a piece of glass been blown :?
Looks very effective with the light.
1mm thin :shock: How do you stop it from moving.
Is there any particular wood best suited to use to get that thin :?:

FREE wood would be my choice, as I suspect many attempts would be required to get that thin without a mishap (certainly by me anyway!!!).
