Well.....no rest for the wicked my Dad used to say and today that adage proved right again. Todays instalment was more in the cherry, ash and unknown department. The unknown was a wood I've never seen before. Spalted to the point of almost no return but once the outside was turned off it revealed a very dusky pink, wildly figured grain with branch grain going in all manner of directions. It was an old stump that I've been using as a chopping station (outside) for the past 6 years. I got a little trigger happy and accidentally sliced it into 4 with the chainsaw. Messed around on the bandsaw a bit and got a few bowl and spindle blanks from it. Have a decko at the photos and see if anyone recognises it (won't be easy based on the spalting and I don't think I took a picture of the turned piece because I didn't actually finish it).
Anyway I'm down to one last pile of yew and apple now then at least the workshop is clear. I also enclose a few of an oak salad bowl (around 10" which came from the oak batch I've been sawing this past few days, though I didn't turn it today).
