Noticed this at Machine Mart and wondered if it would be a good place to start on a shop built mortiser. The price is certainly right compared to what is available in the Us($900 USD) for a nice table but no motor.Has anyone any thoughts on this ,or any other?

Walt,

I see they don't have the Tekna machine it is supposed to fit and I can't find it on the web. I guess you could rig up a router horizontally and use this table instead of making one and it would save some work if there is no slop in the mechanism - coming from Machine Mart which is not a retailer of high quality tools, I think this is doubtful.

With this kind of set up, one needs to have stops for limiting the table movement to cut mortises accurately. I think they might be difficult to arrange with what I can see of this thing.

Ach, I hate Machine Mart's site; takes forever to download a page...

Hmm, doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, to be honest; even the slot mortising table for the Record Maxi is better than that. But then slot mortisers as a breed don't really wow me anyway. Wasn't there a plan in FWW not that long back too? (code for "I think it was a couple of issues ago, so it's probably any time in the last five years")

Cheers, Alf
