Sticky Measure on Mitre Fence

Hi,

Just bought http://www.axminster.co.uk/ujk-technology-precision-mitre-gauge-fence-501281 and it comes with a sticky ruler tape. The instructions show it being stuck to the front of the fence however I fail to understand how that can be useful given the fence is movable and therefore the distance from the blade is unlikely to be the dimension shown on the ruler...

What am I missing?
