Sound Insulation

Hello,

Has anyone encountered an effective sound insulation.?

Something I can line the inside of a Garage with, to carry cupboards, shelves etc.

Save yer money!

Insulate the ceiling (bog standard stuff will work for both noise & heat) as best you can.

The cupboards & shelves (when full) will provide considerable sound deadening properties.
Any spaces - build more cupboards!!!

finally, a topic i know something about! :lol:

Rockwool is quite good. if you can get away with it, put up a framework of 4x2s to carry chipboard panelling, with the Rockwool between the wall and the chipboard. it'll reduce floorspace, but it's an effective soundproofing measure. lining the walls with carpet can also help a little, but that's mainly used for cutting down reverberations inside.

As I have a cavity to fill, rockwool sounds good.

I found carpet works somewhat but collects dust etc, and smells after a while.

When I built my workshop the planning permission stated that it had to be 'acoustically insulted' (sic). The architect specified 50mmm Rockwool RW3 between the battens on which the plasterboard lining was hung. Seems to work ok.
