Hello. This is my first post on the forum so thanks for reading! I am keen to get recommendations of Scottish suppliers of smaller quantities of preferably seasoned limbs, lengths and lumps! Un-sawn is ideal as I am just starting out in the field of amateur sawdust production but have the facility to saw, plane etc. I am based by Dundee so the nearer the better as ideally I'd like to be able to make a visit to check out stock first.
Thanks in advance! Duncan.

Can't help with local hardwood suppliers Duncan but welcome to the forum anyway.

There are quite a few lads from your neck of the woods here on the forum so they may be along shortly to assist.

I'm not sure if there is a facility to identify members by location or residence. Again, someone with a little more IT savvy may be along to tell you how to go about it.

Good luck

David

Hi Duncan
I am based in Glenrothes, so not too far away. I mill all of my own timber and kiln dry it for making furniture etc. I am about to remake my kiln in the next month or 2 and then hit the sawdust making in a serious way. My stocks are a wee bit low just now but I have still got plenty of ash, oak, yew, elm and some other stuff lurking. I do sell to other furniture makers and the public to offset the costs of milling and kiln drying. I have pm'd you my phone no and email address if you want to get in touch. I am also available on evenings and weekends if anyone wants to get some timber.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
There is also Brodie`s (formerly Burhouse) at Inver, off the A9 near Dunkeld. I`ve only been once since it changed ownership a year or so ago, but they still had a good selection of stuff and the staff were very helpful. They also have a shop with lots of woodworking kit and supplies.

No local ones to add to those mentioned, but there are still one or two places further up in the North East who have some interesting stuff - Colin Cooper in Mintlaw and Pearcey hardwoods in Ythanwells are two examples. Also one or two good local estate sawmills.

Welcome!

Directline timber in Dundee are helpful but only really deal with kiln dried stuff.

Scottish Wood in Oakley, near Dunfermline are very good and sell all manner of green and dried timber. I really like these guys.

If you are after little lumps and offcuts and a bit of a rummage I can recommend Haldanes in Glenrothes. They specialise in bespoke stairs and the like but they open one Saturday morning a month and sell offcuts. The woodturners like this place but I go along and pick up a few planks of wood every so often.

There is also a sawmill in Newburgh. I've driven past it often enough but never used them. It does look interesting though.

Hope that helps.

Just remebered. You could also try Blackdog timber. They are a mobile sawing business in the Perth area so if you get friendly with them you might be able to get unprepped stuff

Yes, although I checked the website yesterday and it's still functional. ?

You could have a look at the Milling section on the Arbtalk forum. Some of the guys are your way on (ish)

That's fantastic guys, many thanks for your replies! I'll get looking into your suggestions. I didn't expect so much input, much appreciated.
Regards, Duncan.
