Ryobi EMS254L

..Hi all,

..still trying to find the "best" mitre saw. Every time I think I have made a decision, there seems to be a post or review that suggests there maybe some "issues" with the saw I have selected.

About the only one left on my list now is the Ryobi EMS254L. It seems to be a good compromise, and also benefits from a "compact" design (fixed rails)...However can's seem to find many reviews regarding Ryobi quality.

Is there a user out there that could offer any advice?

It's difficult to say with Ryobi as it's no longer a manufactory but one of a number of brands of TTI in China. You can get lucky with a particular model, but mostly it's not good news I'm afraid.

OK ..back to the drawing board...NB ref "best"..am looking for something up to £300..ideally 255 diam, with trench cut...every time I think I have found the right saw, a review pops up to say its "junk"...I guess the problem is they are all made in China..so you may "get lucky"..or then again perhaps not....my list started out as :-

..but one by one they are all falling into the "may be a problem" category..
...anyhow thanks for the input...may have to just find another couple of hundred quid and get a dewalt...?

I had the same criteria when I was looking for a mitre saw recently. My research came to two conclusions: either spend £500+ on a dewalt, or get a Pingtek Redline for about £200.
I went for the pingtek, and I'm very pleased with it. It's not quite as sturdy as a dewalt, but it's a 305mm double beveled sliding compound mitre saw, so it ticked all of my boxes. They're sold new on eBay if you want to take a look.

Not sure about mitre saws specifically, but I have always had success with official Dewalt refurbished stuff. When it turns up up it even smells new There is currently a 250mm Dewalt refurb on eBay for £299...

This sounds a lot like some of my tool buying searches - chasing all features + price + having cake and eating it

What's wrong with the Metabo? When I was looking at buying one of these things (before I settled on just making a Tablesaw sled) that came out top for me and the reviews were full of praise, particularly on accuracy. I got my hands on one at a woodworking show, and they seemed excellent.

ta for the replies..yes I think the Metabo is now top of my list...but could not find any reviews...I will have another look.
I have no problem spending some more money, just seems to be a big jump from budget, (most of which seem to have had some problems reported), up to Dewalt.

..I did take a look, but to be honest I have never heard of them!...(mind you I had not heard of Metabo before either....or Erbauer!)..the search continues......

No worries. I think it's just a Chinese brand, but like I say, I read some favorable reviews and I've been very pleased with it for the price. Plus it's 305mm, so you get that extra cut capacity.

I got an 12year old 305mm ryobi mitre saw, the build quality on it is just excellent, it exceeds/matches the makita/bosch lower end mitre saws in build quality I would say, but than again it was made 12years ago when the brand was more quality than today. I have a 216mm bosch mitre saw as well but that one is just a dud I would say because of its small size.

I would NOT get the pingtek stuff, I had a look at it as well and read some reviews and it's a terrible saw.
I got my ryobi saw for £120 used, and it's an 305mm saw not the ***** small ones, I still see them going on ebay from time to time for the same price or less.

metabo generaly make great products, but I did research on them as well some time ago, after watching some yt reviews/ a couple reviews on this site they are ''ok'' but nothing special, they will serve the purpose but for the mitre saws they aren't as good as makita ones,btw makita had one 254mm saw for something a bit under £300 and its supposed to be one of the best there is, don't remember the model number of it, but there aren't that many 254mm makita ones.

IF I had to buy again I would get an used bosch gcm12 for ~£200 off fleabay but that's only because I have an actual need for the 305mm saws, If I would have to buy 254mm one I would go for that makita.

..the latest reviews I have seen on this web site for Makita are pretty awful....so had given up on them. I did buy a couple of Bosch products a while ago as I assumed Bosh was "quality"...but they to seem to have given up on quality and gone down the "chinese cheese" route in search of higher profits but crap tools...

I think it very much depends on the product with Makita.

I have just been bought a new Makita air brad nailer and it is excellent, build and operation are great. Their lb1200f bandsaw is also good, with some good features not seen in other saws. Their routers are also still excellent.

You need to take reviews with a pinch of salt - there will always be people unhappy with products for one reason or another, and there'll probably be a many people happy with the product.
