I have an Axminster AW106PT planer and suspect the bearings that carry the cutter block might be getting worn. It's the bearing at the opposite end to the drive chain. There is a little cover over the end of the shaft of the cutter block, if you take this cover off and put a screwdriver under the end of the shaft you can lift it slightly, anybody know if this is normal? Started fiddling because don't think the finish on planed timber is as good as it was.

Is this a known problem? Anybody changed the bearing? Planer is just over 3 years old.

Thanks, Doug

If you bought it new from Axminster give them a ring (or email) and explain the issue.

The technical people are very helpful and at just over 3 years old you might get some help if the bearings have really gone.

Worth a try at the very least.
