I doubt when it comes to technology that we have anything of interest to the chinese as I bet they are some way ahead these days and for anything else they just either buy it above board or obtain it through other methods without any need to spy on others. Amazing when you look back that it all started with the good old chinese takeaways and now they are heading off into space, maybe they will have the first takeaway on the moon !

@Spectric we lead the world in a few fields, Arm (microprocessors) is a British company HQ in Cambridge, Satellite design and manufacture and pharmaceuticals to name some of them.

Could be just another bit of distraction and the chap is shouting his innocence, so on that front might be a case of some minor infraction which can be taken multiple ways.

I hope for the Times sake they find him guilty, or by putting his name and face on the front cover they've opened themselves up to being sued.
And on that note I hope he is innocent and sued the hell out that tory rag.

Anyone watching the Russian threat in bbc1 ATM.

Scary how Russian has acted and how the Baltic States perceive the threat from Russia.

The Times a Tory rag? You are joking.

Amazing how some will react when surrounded by an enemy.

Arm is a Japanese company, since 2016 or so.
I'm not sure about world leading in the other two fields you mention.

Yes it was bought out, but its HQ is still in Cambridge. It’s one of the biggest travesties and failings of the British Government that we didn’t stop the sale, it could have and should have. You might remember the discussion. So far as far as I know, the expertise hasn’t been stripped out of the UK…..yet!

Tory free market ideology says you can't buck the market. But you can and you get bucked over if you don't.

@Jacob The father of the free market is usually accredited to Adam Smith. It’s breathtaking how your political blinkers colours your perspective and ability to do the simplest research before exuding a torrent of gibberish,

You don't seem to know much about anything Deema. No wonder you are always huffing and puffing - you need to read a bit more instead of just trotting out the first thing which comes into your head.
"For while Smith might be publicly lauded by those who put their faith in private capitalist enterprise, and who decry the state as the chief threat to liberty and prosperity, the real Adam Smith painted a rather different picture. According to Smith, the most pressing dangers came not from the state acting alone, but the state when captured by merchant elites."

Do you actually read stuff that you make reference to? If you do, do you actually consider what it’s actually saying?
Thatcher was highlighting that her policies had brought into stark contrast the idiosyncrasy of labours left wing strategy and forced them to move towards the centre, i.e. New Labour, in order to stand a chance of winning an election. She was highlighting the death of the socialist agenda that had failed to allow labour to come into power. Absolutely nothing to do with Tony being a Thatcher protege. Her greatest achievement was highlighting the absurdity of socialism by her capitalist agenda that won elections.

We are back to your ‘I think it, so it must be’.
Only way Labour were ever going to get into power was by 're inventing themselves as a sort of Tory lite party, new labour. This of course followed Michael Foot offering more traditional left wing fare, and being roundly rejected. Repeated more recently by Comrade Corbyn. The current lot seem to have got themselves in a right mess. Leader who wants to please everyone, so ends up unable to tell is what he thinks a woman is. Pledges to reverse allegedly anti union legislation, and the union's warning up to demand above inflation wage increases for public service workers etc, should be fun. More strikes anyone? As they are they don't look a particularly good bet to replace the current lot, bad as they are. I suppose they at least don't seem to have anyone quite as unpleasant as Braverman or Patel in the lineup. Reminds me of an interview with a car worker in Detroit when it was Reagan v Carter? Asked who he intended to vote for he said " Some choice, a movie star and a bum"

In fact Thatcher's stupid comment "you can't buck the market" completely ignores the whole basis of the state and government itself, which exist precisely in order to buck the market, one way or another.
It's childish ideology.
Less naive tories know this and they are pleased to have simple minded idealogues fighting to allow them to do just as they please.

A parody from the ‘life if Brian ‘What ever have the socialist done for us.’
Well, there is mass starvation. Yes if course, but besides mass starvation?
Control of thought, banning of ideas and religion. Yes yes, everyone knows that, but besides starvation, control of thought, banning of ideas and religion, what has socialism ever done for us?
Well, they’ve helped us understand a woman is anyone who says they are a woman!

Just wrong. Two minutes on google doesn’t constitute a comprehension

You should try a 2 minute google more often yourself. There is no excuse for ignorance these days!
Surprised you didn't know it was one of Thatcher's most notorious catchphrases.

Very good cartoon recently of Starmer, and quoting Groucho Marx, "These are my principles, if you don't like them I have others" very apt I thought.

You are a bit of a sucker for right wing propaganda!
Don't want to alarm you but socialism is alive and well and living amongst us, albeit struggling against the forces of darkness. We still have the NHS, state education, welfare, human rights, but they are under attack and diminishing. We used to have a proactive housing policy but now we have a massive homelessness problem - though of course you will blame immigrants for this. We have had steady movement towards a more egalitarian society but this is going into reverse
