This current inclement weather has stopped my current outdoor project but has allowed me back in the workshop to catch up on a couple of slow burner jobs, one a sink base in Ash for my son Glued up on the bench with the morticer supplying the weight and a chisel rack ala Mathew Wandle design including a rack for screwdrivers and pliers/pincers. Also a chance to grind and sharpen my bench chisels.

Rain is still persisting very frustating. Continued with the sink base by stripping the cramps and sanding the exposed surfaces. Produced some samples of stain so next time in London I can compare them with the existing wood finish.

Another job on the slow burner being the making of the drawers to the Power Tool storage rack. First drawer half made.

I know this is not a woodwork item but I do have the formwork to make for the re-aligning of two man holes, Profiles to make for the levels and shutters for a semi circular sloping kerb race all part of a carpenters remit on a construction site.

Hi no skills, I am off to London today mainly to check the existing stain for a match. It will not show much progress as when I return home the staining and polishing is a minimum of three coats with a min of 4 hours between. Literaly watching paint dry.

Checked the existing stain, could be a problem. The decorator used Ronsel Rosewood over what looks like a mahogony stain so its back to experimenting.
Weather is brilliant today giving me a chance on working on the drive.

Heres one job I cant do on my own. Up a bit down a bit and when I nod my head hit it.

The target is to turn the manhole top This is the hard part prior to building the Formwork.

Do you need building regs approval for turning/changing the manhole cover? mines right near the back door, I could do with replacing it with a new one.

Could you get a stain mixed up at a paint shop, save all the messing round?

I am not changing the position only reducing the concrete by 12mm and making the cover line up with the paving. It reduces the opening slightly but still gives access. I have done this at work in the past on other projects and building control have not commented. The would if I moved it ie altered the drainware in any way or added another inlet. There interest is to protect you, your neighbours and your property.
I am going to give matching the staining a go if I fail I will speak to a local polisher/antique restorer there are a few in the area.
I spent most of my time in the big City easing doors. Why my son was suprised after he had paid good money for his flat to be decorated his doors will not close. I should have been doing this before the decoration. He is not on his own I come across this situation frequently.
On a good note while in London bought a 243mm thicknesser. Not out of the box yet.

Rain again but it was not the rain stopping play but the high winds that blew my gazabo down Finished reducing the manhole top down so the next job being the forming of the shutters.

First installing the trees.
