Hi everyone,
I have two quick release wood vices, a Record and a Woden. They both suffer from the same issue, which is they slip their threads when tightened. I have pulled them loose and tried to tighten the springs, but I can't get them tight enough to keep the half nuts from slipping. At the moment I wedge some timber underneath the mechanism to keep the half nuts tight, but it's not an elegant solution.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you got any photos of the thread and position of the lifting mechanism - it sounds like the mechanism might not be in full contact with the thread (not much to go wrong on these)

It may be a worn bar. I have the same problem and am due to buy a length of flat bar and try that. I too have wedge...! Best wishes.

I suspect the spring that keeps the bar up may have lost some tension over time. Adjusting the tension might help - from memory its a bit fiddly ;)
Edit: oops, looks like you've tried that- soz

Check the thread on the bar and in the nut, these vices do last a LONG time but they do wear out. So if that's the case. Save yourself a lot of trouble and buy another one off ebay, they aren't that expencive.
