I've noticed that Record plough type planes - typically 043, and 044 - seem to have changed the type of adjustment nuts on the fence and slide bar during their post-war production; the earlier models featured a wing nut head while later models had round, knurled screws.

In fact I have two 043s - one of each. The younger of the two has a knurled screw and came in a box with a penciled price on the label of 34/-6d, which I have tentatively put to the early 60s. The other has wing nuts.

Any historians out there have an idea when these transitions came about?

Unfortunately David Lynch died in 2014, taking a lot more valuable information with him.

I had some correspondence with him several years ago on a similar subject (some changes in Record No.050 plough planes). I'll have to look see if the emails on this computer go back that far.

Edit: I see David wrote "The flat depth stop and fence arm thumb screws were changed to a round screw with a knurled edge around the late 1950's." in the above link, under: "Production Periods For Planes".

Cheers, Vann.
