Well, that is the second night I have tried to upload my WIP of an oak jewelry box that I have been making out of my old front door, but I obviously don't have the nack or the technical know how to do it properly. I have taken a lot from this site and thought I would try and give something back (whether you want it or not ) but I'm having serious problems uploading the photo's. I've reduced their size as per instructions but still nothing!

Any help?????

Perhaps if you explained how you've been trying to upload photos someone may be able to help.

I first upload my photos to Photobucket http://s20.beta.photobucket.com/ then post the link location here using the Img button in the full editor.

Like Roger said - a free on-line picture hosting service is the way to go.

There's a brief guide to posting photos here: https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/picture-posting-guide-t63716.html which is mostly about the 'attachment' option where they are uploaded to the ukworkshop site.

The subtlety with Photobucket is that it gives you a choice of different links. As Roger said, the one labelled as IMG code is the one to use. This gives you a picture of the right size which can be expanded if clicked on. Also, it supplies the tags for you so you don't need to use the Img button at the top of the editor screen - you just need to click the button in Photobucket till it says 'copied' swap back to the post editor on here and Paste (Ctrl +V).

Use the preview button to check what you have done, then press Submit.

Thought I had it just then. Spent the last 2 hours writing and linking photos from photobucket, pressed preview and no photo's only the link came up. Not sure what happened next but a few clicks later and the lot was gone!!! I don't think that I'm destined to ever publish anything on this site.

If I create everything in something like 'MS word' can I just copy and paste straight in?? It might save me losing everything again.

Go to your Photobucket,
select a photo,
click on it (it will open full size),
from right hand pane select and click on img code.

In your posting here use right mouse click and then paste from drop down box (or use keyboard Ctrl + v) something like this will appear ....

#img]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/rogprov/hornet.jpg[/img]

(without the hash - which I've added to stop it opening as an image so you can see what it should look like)

Without the hash it will open as a photo ....

Woah! Scary!!

If you want to work in something else and copy the results in, you can, but I suggest you keep it simple and use Notepad rather than Word. There is also a built in option to save a draft of a post which can be useful if you need to break off and come back to it. (It's in the Full Editor.)

If you are doing anything that involves a significant amount of text and links then it is always wise to copy and past it into a temporary notepad file before attempting to publish or preview.
Dependant upon how you use your browser to navigate the display, you may not have a copy of what you are typing stored in your local machine cache to go back to when the screen refreshes.

If you care to e-mail a copy of a short sample posting you are trying to submit to me I will give it a coating of looking at for you.

Roger if you need to post a code sample in future you can use "code" tags
Code:
[code][img]http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b205/rogprov/hornet.jpg[/img]
[/code]
