20 quid for the Hegner quick clamp and the knob came off yesterday! They could at least have made it permanent. I was stood there wondering why arm wasn't lifting away from the blade - I'm slow these days.
A dab of 601 Loctite will hopefully have cured it. I'll check it this morning.

Hi,
After the last replies, fine by me, a joke is good, I'm a little anxious about what I'm about to say!!
I'm not sure why the wretched knurled knob unwinds but mine does occasionally, I use an allen key (some of my Hegney blade clamps need an allen key to tighten the bottom clamp - that's the one I use). I guess your solution is good but I like to not "glue" the knob (there I've said it again!
Regards,
Bob H.

I'm pretty sure the knob has some sticky stuff on the end to help keep it in when you screw it.

And I think that's about as far as we can (dare) take that joke.

Seriously, there must be some adhesive used, and I'd bet it's Loctite.

Martin I take it that you on about the knurled knob that is the quick release on the top clamp. The part number being HMO 450 priced at £16.30 p,I do not know when I bought mine, even if it happened to me now I would certainly be having words with Hegner, putting any kind of glue would not be my solution.
I know that I put some thread seal on the concertina spring to stop it from keep coming out, which has worked very well, but I would suggest a word in Hegner ear is called for.

Bryan, it's only a special grub screw into the aluminium knurled knob, so the only way it can really be held is by adhesive, and these days adhesives hold aeroplanes together, so I am sure it would be good enough for this application. Anyway, it's fine now. The same Loctite that I used has also been holding a washing machine main bearing in place since I replaced it 15 years ago.

Martin.

Hi Martin than you for pointing the a grub screw is down that small hole,I thought that the screw that tightens the blade just screwed into the knob.I will take a closer look at mine and check the grub screw.Happy Scrolling.
