Hi, I am laying a hardwood floor. Has anyone got any tips on how to arrange the boards for a pleasing random effect? There does not seem to be much info out there other than overlap the joins by at least six inches. The boards are 2mx130mm single engineered planks. Thanksamillion for any advice. :)

Start with your first piece cut approximately in half, but so that the ends go over a joist. (Not so important if this is a floating floor.) Complete the row with whole planks. Cut the last piece to fit, then use the offcut to start your second row. Continue in the same way.

Should give reasonably random end joints and minimum wastage.
