Just bought a Lamello classic x biscuit jointer.
If you rest the base on a table the measurement from table to centre of cutter is 10mm. Same with the flip down fence, from fence to middle of cutter is 10mm.
I would of thought most people use them on 18mm boards so why didn't they make the measurement 9mm?
I know you can put on the 90 degree fence and make the top measurement 9mm, but the jointer won't fit in the box with it attached so for quick and easy biscuits, would it not been easier to make it 18mm from flip down fence to table not 20mm?

There's no point in trying to get a biscuit dead centre, as there's always variation in the thickness of sheet materials. As HOJ says above, just keep in mind which surface you're using as a reference. An off-centre slot can be a help sometimes as it shows for sure which way round the piece goes.

Lamelo produce the Top 20 which allows you to dial the blade down by a mm. One ( expensive ) solution to the problem.
