I've had one of these dust air cleaners in the workshop for about four years, running every day, it's worked faultlessly until last week when it packed in. Upon starting there's a strange, quarter second long whimpering noise, like the motor is trying to start but doesn't quite have the mojo, then nothing. If you press start again there's absolutely nothing until you switch off on and off at the mains and then you're back to the beginning.

I've cleaned the filters, checked the fuse, changed the batteries in the remote, and tried operating directly rather than via the remote.

Is it a fixable or a lost cause?

Thanks.

Can you delve a bit further inside the unit? (within your own safety of course).

It might be a start capacitor on the motor that needs replacing, should be easy and cheap to do - assuming it is that.

I had the same problem with mine, ordered a replacemnet plc board from Axminster (£38) and now works as it should.

I believe the capacitor is a known weak spot on these but my time is scarce so took the plunge and ordered the board, I have kept the old board as a future project to fix (if I ever get round to doing it!) in which case I will have a spare board ready to go should the new one fail :)

Have you given the board a good spray of air followed by some contact cleaner? Might work - worked on the ecu of my car the other week!

I tried that thanks, but no joy.

For what it's worth I had this same issue with mine after several years. Replacing the circuit board sorted it out. It's now been working faultlessly for an even longer period. Damn I wish I hadn't said that !

Custard...the problem that you refer to is a known problem and down to exceedingly poor and shoddy components/duff design used by Jet in this application. It is the capacitor that others have referred to that has failed. I have had this board replaced twice now FOC and the third one is starting to exhibit the same symptoms.

If you are handy with a soldering iron then I have a spare capacitor that I can send you. Looking at the sheer volume of helpful posts that you have made on the forum to help others it is the least I can do.
