Hi all, just to add. He started by taking all doors off their hinges why ? then several day later propped them against the wall and painted them.
He took all switch and socket covers off and wrapped them in plastic Why ? and then put them back as you can see loose and with several screw missing, yet to be found.
He took the doors off the wall units in the shower room and wrapped them in polythene why ?
No caulking done so gaps everywhere. No sanding done anywhere, any filling was painted over without sanding.
I dont know where the customer stands re payment for what is a horrendous paint job. I will have to go in and sort it out.

Incompetent, criminal, bordering on ridiculous. The public should be warned off the person so that nobody else has to face this level of depravity

I bought a new house "off plan" in the late 1980s - and the paint job was very similar to what you show (especially the painted over plaster splashes on the woodwork) - but in my case the painters didn't bother either removing or masking electrical fittings, so they were nicely decorated with paint splashes too (at least all the screws remained in place!) and I had some amazing decorative runs down some of the doors as well :-(

I have a mate who is a skilled and very experienced chef, (ran a large nursing home kitchen for several years). He decided to 'have a change' and 'became a decorator because it's easy'. As he's a mate I tried diplomatically to explain some facts. All went over his head. He does a decent job but is clearly lacking in some skills as his training consists of doing his own at home.

Strikes me that your guy is an ex something or other having a go at decorating 'because it's easy'. Clear to see he's not a tradesman and has had zero training. If he had he wouldn't be removing doors or switch plates, pretty basic stuff.

As a matter of interest, how old is he?

I don't see much wrong with the painting.

The plastering, on the other hand, could be better. Did the painter do the plastering, or was he expected to do somebody else's 'making good'?

Grayorm, the guy i would say was in his late 50s. People don't realise painting and decorating is a skilled trade . Just buy some brushes and your off. You see it loads of times on the TV shows where some home owner is having a go at the painting, but never having a go at the plumbing or electrics. I always say 50% prepping and 50% painting.
Doorframe, get yourself down to specsavers. I could of uploaded more photo's of the job, but as my boy had to do it for me and it was late and at 13 he had to go to bed. What you see on the round mirror picture is a channel cut for the towel radiator cable, and filled but was never sanded, the chap just painted over it i don't think he had any sandpaper in his kit. On new or old plaster i would always put on the first coat of paint and rub down any marks on the plaster before the final coat. As most decorators are the last person on a job surely they are the man who will do as you say "somebody else's making good" within reason, as if a decorator does not spend the time doing the prepping no way will he achieve a good finish.

This guy is clearly not a decorator. I think prep is at least 50% probably nearer 70%, and that includes sorting imperfections in the surfaces, regardless of why they are there. OK so the plastering is shabby, where's his filler and sand paper? He's obviously keen to do the job right because he took the trouble to take off the doors and switch plates, but why?..............Because he isn't a decorator.
